Professor Muhammad Yunus started Grameen Bank in 1976 to lend to poor rural women so that they can engage in income generating activities.



Professor Yunus and Grameen Bank were awarded the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts at economic development from below.



Professor Yunus serves as the Chairman of Yunus Centre.
